Saudi Travel Company Moves Core ERP Operations to the Cloud

Saudi travel company Almosafer has announced a collaboration with SAP and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to accelerate its digital transformation and support the next phase of growth in Saudi Arabia’s travel and tourism sector.

As part of the initiative, Almosafer plans to migrate its enterprise resource planning (ERP) environment to RISE with SAP on AWS, creating a cloud-based foundation for its business operations. SAP announced the collaboration on September 1, 2026.

The initiative is connected to the expansion of Saudi Arabia’s travel and tourism industry and the country’s broader Vision 2030 development programme.

Moving Core Business Systems to the Cloud

ERP systems support many essential business functions, including finance, procurement, operations, planning and reporting.

Moving such systems to a cloud platform can provide organizations with a more scalable technology foundation and can make it easier to integrate data and digital services across business functions.

For Almosafer, the planned migration is intended to support operational scale as the company continues to expand its role in Saudi Arabia’s travel and tourism market.

Combining SAP and AWS Technologies

The collaboration brings together SAP’s enterprise software environment and AWS cloud infrastructure.

The cloud-based approach is expected to provide a foundation for capabilities involving analytics, automation and artificial intelligence, while helping integrate business processes and data.

This reflects a broader trend in enterprise digital transformation in which organizations are moving beyond individual cloud applications and modernising core business systems.

Digital Transformation as Business Modernisation

Digital transformation is often misunderstood as simply adopting new digital tools.

In enterprise environments, transformation can involve redesigning core business processes, migrating legacy systems, integrating data, automating workflows and creating technology foundations capable of supporting future applications.

The Almosafer initiative demonstrates this broader approach.

Rather than treating cloud technology as an isolated IT project, the planned ERP migration forms part of the company’s wider business and operational strategy. SAP describes the initiative as supporting Almosafer’s long-term growth and the development of Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector.

Why Cloud ERP Matters

Cloud ERP can allow organizations to operate business systems through cloud infrastructure instead of maintaining the same level of on-premises infrastructure.

It can also support integration with other cloud services, analytics platforms and emerging AI capabilities.

However, cloud transformation also requires careful attention to cybersecurity, data governance, integration, employee training, regulatory requirements and change management.

Technology alone does not guarantee successful transformation.

A Broader Enterprise Trend

The Almosafer development is part of a wider movement toward cloud-based enterprise systems.

Organizations across industries are increasingly examining how cloud computing, integrated data, automation and AI can work together to improve operational visibility and support business growth.

For technology professionals, this creates demand for skills spanning cloud platforms, ERP systems, data integration, cybersecurity, business analysis and digital transformation.
